About Us
Our Vision
To empower the refugee community through literacy, fostering a foundation for lifelong learning, cultural integration, and personal growth, thereby enabling them to take charge of their own mate-rial, intellectual and spiritual development and fulfil their twofold purpose as a human being. To foster community processes such as consultation, collective prayer, building unified environ-ments, developing unified action and other patterns of community life conducive to advancing the wellbeing of the community. We aim to engage whole families to develop a vibrant community life and contribute by serving their neighbourhood and community.
Why are Families so Important?
The discipline that governs our relationships with the world is largely formed within the family. The tendencies to be unjust or just, to act violently or with kindness, to be dishonest or trustworthy, are usually developed at home. These habits are then taken into every instance of social interaction, becoming either obstacles or stepping-stones to progress, tearing apart or weaving together the very fabric of society. If brothers are allowed to dominate their sisters, for instance, a habit is formed that will be carried from the living room to the classroom, the workplace and finally, the international arena. Conversely, when daughters are included in decision-making processes, when sons are encouraged to care for the household, characters are being developed. Children learn that the intellectual powers of both boys and girls are vital, that the nurturing qualities for which women are known are equally praiseworthy when demonstrated by men.
Two Fold Purpose
In the context of the transformation of society, our purpose is to devote our energies and abilities to the promotion of the welfare of the human race and thus carry forward an ever advancing civilisation.
“Think ye at all times of rendering some service to every member of the human race…” said ‘Abdu’l-Bahá. “Be ye sincerely kind, not in appearance only…Let him do some good to every person whose path he crosseth, and be of some benefit to him. Let him improve the character of each and all, and reorient the minds of men.”
This twofold moral purpose, to transform our own individual lives through service to humanity, while effecting a transformation on the life of society, is powered by the ideal that we are all members of one human family.
“Ye are all the fruits of one tree, the leaves of one branch.”
This ideal frees us from the negative forces of bigotry, prejudices, superstitions and fanaticism which destroy collective action and cripples any positive movement towards lasting change.
